It all started when Pam was five, Pat was eight, and Gary was ten. Our father, Wendell Gleason, taught us a simple song in three part harmony, and we sang it at a Minnesota camp meeting. Our trio soon expanded to a quartet with dad singing bass. The youngest sibling, Stan, eventually added his baritone to the group, and for a time, the Gleason family songs had five parts. Singing together promoted family harmony (in more ways than one) and kept us close. Our repertoire has always included some a capella songs, our signature sound. Through the years, we sang at church services, conferences, and various events, and participated in a number of recording projects. Although the Gleasons get together now only two or three times per year, every family reunion includes singing!
As a teenager, Pam began to select the songs and prepare the vocal arrangements for the Gleason family, and she has arranged most of the vocals for this project. However, the song “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” is a choir song that Wendell Gleason directed many years ago. It is especially meaningful to the family as the lyrics are from Numbers 6:24, which Dad quoted when he blessed us a few days before his promotion to glory. Stan Gleason, Kansas City, has now taken over the bass part. Pat Bollmann, alto, lives in St. Louis, Missouri; Gary Gleason, tenor, lives in Oregon City, Oregon; and Pam Blaszyk, soprano, lives in Kansas City, Missouri.
